So I’ve spent many oh nights at my brothers place these past few weeks. Usually we sit around watching TV or playing PS2. We laze about doing absolutely nothing for hours on end. It’s our way of spending more time with each other, really.
Over the past while I always had this software called ‘Virtual DJ’. One night last week I busted the software out while my brother was playing his gajillionth hole on Tiger Woods golf. He actually said I was pretty good. I did a few mashups, and was just fucking around with transitions. Anyways, we did this for a few nights and I’ve grown to really enjoy it.
So that’s it. It’s my new hobby. Being a DJ. With my decent and fairly wide knowledge of music I can probably throw a pretty good dance party.
We went to the Social last Thursday and I watch Jazz and Justin Perrof (sp?) using Serato, a similar, and probably more popular program.
What’s really fucking cool is you can get these special vinyl records, and hook it up on regular turntables to the software, and you can use these records to adjust the speed and align beats, live, on your screen.
Last night, I discovered Virtual DJ does the same thing for about half the price.
I probably won’t shell out for turntables, mixer, and controller just yet. I’m gonna fuck around with the software more, and get some practice with live audiences in Korea.
But now, I’ll need a DJ name.
Will I use the abbreviation ‘DJ’ in my DJ name a la DJ Shadow?
Should I use some sort of peculiar spelling of some ambiguous word a la MSTRKRFT?
Should I add some sort of cool verb to my real name a la Mixmaster Mike? (Side question: Is mixmaster mike’s name really mike?)
Perhaps something downright crude, preventing me from making any kind of mainstream popularity, like ‘DJ-Fuckyea’?
What if I was ‘DJ-Sun’. Because that way it sounds like they’re say ‘D-Jason’. or ‘The-Jason’.
… that’s actually kind of clever. I’m happy I thought of that.
Ideas?
