I never really celebrated Oktoberfest back home. Despite that Kitchener-Waterloo is home to the 2nd largest Oktoberfest party in the world, it never seemed worth it to spend 2 hours on a bus to get there. And what exactly are we celebrating? The letter K’s superiority over the letter C despite the letter C having a starring role in the word ‘October’?
So, technically, this past weekend was my first Oktoberfest. It really wasn’t that much different than any other weekend of partying except for the employees and the german guys all dressed in some sort of traditional German attire, and sausages. The beer was still Cass. I was hoping for some german brew. Though, what was different was that the place was packed, remodled with some nice new furniture, and there was a nice patio set up outside too.
What was also important about this weekend is that I had 3 performances to prepare. It was a busy weekend. The Love Guns did an acoustic number on friday night, as well as my other band with Steve. We did the entire White Stripes White Blood Cells album from top to bottom. He on the guitar, and myself on drums and vocals.
Saturday night, after what seemed to be waiting forever we played our normal loud Love Guns set. Played a bunch of new sweet tunes that got everybody dancing and throwing their limbs in the air and stuff. It was louder and sweatier than I’ve ever played. I even broke a string on the bass. Actually, it was probably the funnest show I have ever played. I hate playing to sitters, and there was no one sitting this time.
On Friday, I’ll be renting a van, and playing a show somewhere just outside of Daegu. Neksa is organizing some Festival After-party at his school, and we’re set to rock off the socks of a bunch of Korean University students. I can’t fucking wait. Then the following Saturday, we play Psycho for the first time.
This just in: I’ll be finishing work at 6, Mon, Tuesday, and Friday. Fucking Bitchin. Chusok is also coming up. Hopefully, I’ll get a lot of time in with Craig to really try to work on some original stuff.
