- Sunday morning I played paintball in Gumi. Was pretty great, the weather was awesome, and an all-round good time. I ended up shelling out 40 bucks for my own mask. 3 more games and I’ll have made the money back from the discounted game fee for owning your own mask. Plus it’s way more comfortable than wearing a helmet so tight that all I can hear is my own heartbeat. I ended up getting a kill, finally.
- Starting a rock band with Craig, who’s landed in Gumi as well. He’s from the UK and was formerly in the Atlantic signed band ‘No Hope in New Jersey‘. What’s great is, is that I like the dude. I’ve met a few musicians here, but I’m not attracted to really working with many of’em. Anyways, the music store in Gumi is selling a Ludwig kit for about 550,000 Won, or like 600 bucks, or like, in Craig’s word, about 300 squid. Or was it, Quid? I found a pretty sweet Fernandes Bass there for about 250,000 Won. Since I know lots of guitarists, and no bassists. I’ve also talked to Sugi, owner of the Waegook Cook, and I’ll be using the restaurant as a jam space in the mornings when they’re closed. Saweeet. I’m thinking of getting things rolling, get a gig here and there in Gumi as warm-up, and start to hit a few spots in Daegu. I saw a pretty sweet Blues band at a place called ‘Commune’ in Daegu, and they’ve got all the equipment there, so trucking it from Gumi won’t be so bad, since most of the gear is there.
- I wiped out on my scooter the other day. Nothing serious really. I was in the parking ot of the Waegook Cook and stopped on the gravel part instead of the paved part because there was all this stuff on the paved part. I had to stop short of the paved area, and my front wheel slid right and I fell to my left. My back brake’s a bit fucked, but otherwise, no injuries.
- Speaking of injuries, on Saturday I was up at Geumosan enjoying a wicked day on the patio with Roisin, Fraser, Neff, Jessica, and Steven. I ended up trying out Fraser’s new motorcycle without a hitch. I learned a few weeks prior from Justin on his bike. It was pretty easy to grasp if you know how to drive stick. Anyways, I suppose I peaked Steven’s interest. As soon as he sat on it I got nervous about the whole thing. But he went off pretty well, circling the parking lot, making two left turns. Then he went roudn some parked buses at the far end, but then…he disappeared. I heard a smash and some people started looking at the area behind the buses. Fraser didn’t hear the smash, so I told’em it didn’t really sound like a smash, and that it was probably just him accidentally downshifting. So I hop on my scooter and speed over to find Steven clutching a broken off mirror. He had apparently tried to turn before the bus, but lost control, and hit the parked bus. His hand was cut pretty bad the there was some minor damage to the bike. A Korean woman was pointing at the scratch on the bus and was saying ‘oh man, you guys better get out of here. Go! Go fast! Here, I’ll go first, I didn’t see anything. Ok? Go!’. Anyways, Steven ended up with a damaged tendon, a bunch of stitches, and a perma-middle-finger for the next while. I felt pretty bad about the whole thing.
- I can’t stop listening to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!
- Greatest new little program for my computer: Launchy! You hit Alt-Space, and you get a dialog that you type in. You type the program you want to launch and it’ll find it as you type it in. No more pressing Start, and looking through your list of 50 or so programs. I know, at first I thought it sounded stupid too. But after only a few minutes, I realized how valuable it really is. Check it out if you have lots of different applications that you use on occasion.
- I’m chugging through the audio book fo The Da Vinci Code, with plans to finish it before I see the movie. I’m ony chapt 57 and it’s pretty decent.
