You know, when I first got to Korea, I was blown away by the hustle and the bustle of Seoul. When I got to Gumi I was less than impressed by it’s small town feel.
Now that I’ve been here for about 4 and a half months, I’m very happy about landing Gumi.
It’s kinda neat that it’s my mom’s birthplace which means there’s family here looking out for me and cleaning my kitchen on a weekly basis. But besides that I’ve been happy about creating and maintaining new friendships.
If I were in Seoul, this is an assumption by the way, I don’t think I would’ve been able to make as many friends. And I don’t mean people I’ll just see at the bar once every once awhile where I’ll say “hey, didn’t I meet you at the place that one time? heeeey! ” and then sing songs or something. In humble old Gumi I’ve been able to meet people who I can be friends with outside of …well, outside of drinking. And I’m totally happy about this. Despite it’s total lack of nightlife, Gumi has been good to me. We’ll just have to continue to make our own nightlife.
